- 3For a 29 February birthday, choose which day counts in other years.
- 4Read the age and the breakdown below it.
Good to know
How the age is counted:
- Whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over.
- When the birth date is the 29th, 30th or 31st and a month is shorter, that month’s anniversary is its last day. For example, 31 January to 28 February is 1 month.
- Leap years are included: years divisible by 4 are leap years, except century years not divisible by 400 (2000 was a leap year, 1900 was not).
- For a 29 February birthday you choose whether the birthday falls on 28 February or 1 March in other years, because rules differ between countries and organisations.
Limitations
- Dates are whole calendar days, with no times or time zones. “Today” comes from your device’s clock.
- For official purposes (school admission, job age limits, retirement) check how that organisation counts age; some count on a fixed cut-off date.
