This is a phonetic helper, not a standard Urdu keyboard layout

Each key gives one Urdu letter, chosen by sound. Short vowels are not typed (write “bht” for بہت), as in normal Urdu spelling. On phones, predictive keyboards can bypass the key mapping; if letters come out in English, use the on-screen keyboard.

How to use Urdu Typing

  1. 1Click in the text box and type. Each English key gives an Urdu letter, e.g. p → پ, k → ک, x → ش.
  2. 2Hold Shift for less common letters (T → ٹ, D → ڈ, R → ڑ, N → ں) and for diacritics such as zer and pesh.
  3. 3Or click the letters on the on-screen keyboard, including Space, New line and Backspace.
  4. 4Edit as normal, then press Copy text and paste it wherever you need it.

Good to know

This is a phonetic typing helper made for ToolSolvo. It is not the standard Windows Urdu keyboard or the CRULP phonetic layout, so the key positions differ from those. The full list of keys is under “Which key types which letter?”.

  • One key types one letter. Short vowels are not written in normal Urdu, so type the letters you would write: بہت is b h t.
  • For aspirated sounds, add do-chashmi he with o: بھائی is b o a u i.
  • Untick “Phonetic typing” to type English words, then tick it again to continue in Urdu.
  • The text box runs right to left. English words and numbers inside Urdu text keep their own left-to-right order.

Limitations

  • On phones, keyboards with predictive text may send whole words instead of single keys, so the mapping cannot apply. Use the on-screen keyboard there.
  • Text is kept only while this page is open. Copy it before closing the tab.
