How to use PDF to JPG
- 1Choose a PDF. ToolSolvo shows how many pages it has.
- 2Convert all pages, or choose pages such as “1-3, 5”.
- 3Pick JPG or PNG and a resolution. The page shows how many pixels page 1 will be.
- 4Press Convert, then download each image or all of them together as a ZIP file.
Good to know
Your PDF is opened and drawn by your own browser using PDF.js (the PDF engine used in Firefox). It is not uploaded, and the images are created on your device.
Choosing format and resolution
- JPG gives much smaller files and suits scans and photos. Fine text can show slight blurring; choose High quality to reduce it.
- PNG is lossless, so text and lines stay crisp, but files are several times larger.
- 150 DPI suits screens and most uploads (an A4 page is about 1,240 × 1,754 pixels). 300 DPI is for printing and makes images about four times the size.
Limitations
- Each page becomes one picture of the whole page. Text in the images can’t be selected or searched.
- This tool does not pull out the individual photos embedded in a PDF; it captures each page as you see it.
- Rotated pages come out the right way up, as they appear in a PDF reader. Pages get a white background.
- Very large pages (such as posters or drawings) are drawn at up to 16 megapixels each, to stay within browser limits; you’re told when that happens.
- Long PDFs are converted page by page with a progress bar and a Cancel button. To protect your browser’s memory, conversion stops once the images reach about 250 MB and tells you where it stopped; convert the rest as a separate range.
- Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first.
- A few PDFs may look slightly different than in other PDF readers, for example with unusual fonts.
Going the other way? Use JPG to PDF. If you only need a smaller PDF, try Compress PDF instead, which keeps it as a PDF. To make a page image fit an upload limit in KB, run it through the Image Compressor.
