Good to know

This is transliteration, not translation. It changes the letters, not the language: English sentences are not translated into Urdu.

Roman Urdu has no fixed spelling, so the conversion is approximate. The same word may be typed as “nahi”, “nahin” or “nai”, and English letters cannot show the difference between sounds such as ت and ٹ, or ہ and ح. ToolSolvo converts in two ways:

  • Word list: about 724 common spellings of everyday words, such as “shukriya” → شکریہ, are converted to their standard Urdu spelling.
  • Letter rules: other words are converted by sound (“dost” → دوست). These are guesses and are listed for you to check.

Limitations

  • Words with the same Roman spelling but different meanings get one spelling, e.g. “kal” is always کل.
  • Common short words that are also English (to, is, in, so, do) are converted as Urdu. Put English in braces.
  • Your text is converted in your browser and is not sent to any translation service.
