Good to know
An AI model runs on your own device, inside your browser. Your image is never uploaded. The only download is the model itself (about 42 MB, from this website), which your browser keeps for next time.
Works best with
- People: portraits, selfies and full-body photos, including most hairstyles
- A single clear object or pet that stands out from its background
Can struggle with
- Busy scenes with several objects, or subjects the same colour as the background
- Glass, smoke, fine fur or thin details such as bicycle spokes
- Nearby items, such as a table or wall, that may be kept or partly removed
Results are not perfect every time, so check the edges before you use the image. Processing usually takes 10–30 seconds on a computer. Phones are slower, and older phones with little memory may not be able to process large photos.
Photos larger than about 16 megapixels are scaled down to keep memory use safe. iPhone HEIC photos need to be saved as JPG first. To change the size of the result while keeping its transparency, use the Image Resizer with PNG output.
